We're back !
In 2010 the Greek Theatre Players will be returning to the newly refurbished Greek Theatre, and hope to welcome new members to this friendly amateur company specializing in quality traditional Shakespeare at a unique open-air venue. Next year’s production will be the rarely performed Henry VI Part 2 and Henry VI Part 3, continuing the story of England’s Plantagenet monarchy from where our 2007 production of Henry V concluded.
So what about Henry VI Part 1? The fact is that Parts 2 and 3 were written first, under different titles, and proved so popular that a ‘prequel’ was hastily written to capitalise upon their success. It is widely accepted that Part I was almost certainly not entirely written by Shakespeare and a leading authority writes: ‘There is in fact nothing in Henry VI Part 1 that we need to know to follow the story of Parts 2 and 3. Indeed, those plays can be seen to be stronger without it’. Parts 2 and 3, which chronicle the Wars of the Roses, therefore stand alone as an exciting, all-action medieval soap opera of deceit, betrayal, adultery, rebellion and murder, not to mention political manoeuvring of present day quality. Enormous fun for everyone involved! More details on our Next Production page
Production dates:
Sunday 20th June – Sunday 27th June inc.
A casting reading will be held on Saturday 24th October 2009 from 10.30 – 12.30 at The Welcome Centre, Church Lane, Walthamstow E17 and rehearsals proper will begin in January 2010 on Saturday mornings, with further rehearsals as necessary by arrangement.
